Entain Relegated from FTSE 100 Index to FTSE 250 Following Share Price Slump

London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has announced that global gaming giant Entain will be demoted from the blue-chip FTSE 100 index to the FTSE 250 following its latest quarterly review. The official exclusion of the operator from the benchmark list of the UK’s 100 most capitalised companies will take effect on 21 September 2026. Entain had maintained its place in the FTSE 100 since June 2020, but a 37% drop in share price over the past twelve months brought its market capitalisation down to £3.39 billion.

The index relegation comes after several turbulent years marked by frequent CEO changes, a £585 million deferred prosecution penalty regarding historical operations in Turkey, and integration bottlenecks across acquired brands. Under group CEO Stella David and newly appointed CFO Michael Snape, Entain is executing a comprehensive turnaround program, which includes cost cutting, divesting its Entain CEE division to de-lever the balance sheet below 3x EBITDA, and upgrading its legacy gaming platforms.

For iGaming operators and industry stakeholders, Entain’s technical struggles highlight how crucial modern, modular software architecture is for sustaining margins. Choosing a flexible PAM platform, a scalable turnkey casino engine, and an efficient back-office management system protects operators from the costly legacy infrastructure debt that hindered the British gaming giant.

Despite the FTSE 100 demotion, financial analysts at Goodbody and UBS reiterated their bullish stance on Entain, pointing to strong double-digit online growth in key regulated markets including the UK, the US, and Brazil across the first half of the year.
