Licensed gambling operators in Sweden generated a combined turnover of SEK 7.4 billion ($776 million) during the second quarter of 2026, representing a 5.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to official data released by national gambling regulator Spelinspektionen.
The regulatory authority defines turnover as total player stakes minus paid winnings. The quarterly expansion was primarily driven by the commercial online gaming and sports betting segment, which accounted for SEK 4.96 billion of the total, climbing more than 7% year-on-year.
State-run lotteries and land-based gaming machines contributed SEK 1.43 billion, maintaining stable performance year-over-year. Public benefit games, including lotteries and bingo halls, generated SEK 863 million, while commercial land-based gaming in restaurants grew by nearly 13% to reach SEK 73 million. State operator Svenska Spel reported negligible land-based casino revenue following the complete closure of its final Casino Cosmopol venue in 2025.
The regulator also reported on consumer protection and market integrity indicators. Participation in the national self-exclusion system Spelpaus.se stood at just under 138,000 registered individuals at quarter-end, marking a slight 0.7% decrease compared to the previous quarter. In April, Spelinspektionen introduced updated technical standards requiring unique IDs and tighter verification for operator integration.
Channelisation towards the licensed online market slipped to 84%, continuing a modest downward trend from 86% in 2023. Spelinspektionen identified 2,186 active unlicensed gambling websites targeting Swedish players, noting that social media influencers and affiliate link farms remain major drivers directing domestic traffic to offshore operators.
